Yet another Sony Ericsson Phone.

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

I got myself yet another Sony Ericsson Phone! This time around its the w810i and have absolutely no regrets with this one too. But I definitely miss my K750i. I was looking at Moto Rokr E6, K550i and the w810i. The ROKR is a good phone running Linux and Qt apps. Major reason why I chucked it out of my list eventually is because of the touch screen and form factor. Typing a SMS is a big pain in that mobile if you dont wanna use the stylus. K550i a good one again, supports A2DP Bluetooth Profile and has almost similar features like the w810i with the difference being that K550i has a TFD (Thin Film Diode) screen and uses the micro SD card but the w810i uses the MS Duo Pro, TFT (Thin Film Transistor) Screen (Difference between TFD and TFT) and also comes in with a 512 MB card.

So its the w810i and I am just loving it. I guess I have become a complete SE Mobile phone fanbhoi now! Two SE phones in a row…

I Lost my mobile!!

Monday, December 17th, 2007

darn! I just realised I have not synced my mobile with my laptop for over six months and above all I am unable to find the back up data. Grrr!!

All this happened while returning from the picnic. It must be in the van but the driver says the obvious! Guys, please message me your number (if you think I had your number) with your name (Include any special identification statements if any to avoid same name confusions). My number remains the same.

Sorry for the trouble.

Adventure weekend!

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Last weekend was filled with events (good and bad). I went on a trip to Hill View resorts which is in Ram Nagar (near Bangalore) on the Mysore Road. It was that time of the year when most companies begin to spend the allocated annual budget for official picnics and my firm was not different either. We had a different kind of a picnic this time with some adventure sports.

Rappelling Up above the place so high! The Tandons One on the way! Did I come up this way?? :O

We began the day with a small trek, followed by what is called a “Chimney Climb”. Not many could do it (Yay! I did it). It was followed by another small trek downhill and then lunch. This was followed by the famous “Rappelling” activity. We had to descend down from a height of about 130-140 feet hill. It was loads of fun. I met up with my Old boss and had very good time with the guys. Most of them stayed overnight while I decided to return back. Reached Bangalore by around 10 PM.

“Linked List” ed errr.. Married???

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Linked List, Pod casting, Video Streaming, Internet Radio, Live Blogging, IRC….. No! These were not heard at some foobar conference.. It was heard at a wedding!!! Hahah. Thats how the K guy’s wedding went on. 2 hours before getting married, his laptop is open and he is online though not *actually* on IRC. I would not have been surprised if he did a quick “brb after marriage” on #linux-india or any other IRC Channel he is a part of. Comparing Linked List with the exchange of Malas outgeeked by far loads of people I know. What fun it was!! The Marriage was in Mumbai and I reached there by a Indian Airlines flight (my Jet flight got cancelled!!) and was picked up by Barkha. From then on until today morning when I reached Bangalore, it was pure fun. Met Kevin, Vihan, Ubunturos, Anurag and several others “again??”. Some good snaps taken and quite a lot of new friends.

Bah... Pradeeepto Wedding Pics Pradeeepto Wedding Pics Pradeeepto Wedding Pics

Btw, Mumbai Domestic airport is awesome. Good looks but still long long security check queues.

A Bicycle trip to Art Of Living Campus

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

It happened today. The bicycle trip to a distant place which was getting postponed and postponed due to various reasons happened today. The destination was the Art of Living Campus (No! I am *not* associated with it by any means. It was just a destination for the trip :D ) on the Kanakapura Road, 26 Kms from the place I live. Number of weapons of destruction were five. We started at around 0700 hrs and reached the ashram at around 0900 hrs or may be even before that. The trip to the destination was fun with the road sloping down most of the journey and hence we knew that the journey back would be even more fun. After having breakfast at the ashram we started exploring the huge campus. We reached a place called the Sumeru Mantap and I slept off for a power nap. I woke up to find the other guys playing a game of chess and joined in. The journey back was extremely challenging and I still dont remember the number of chocolate bars I gulped down. Returned back to Bangalore at around 1400 hrs.

Return Journey begins!the Journey begins The Meditation Dome? Sucess Story! On the way!

Some lessons learnt.

1. Have enough stock of Glucose and water.

2. Chocolate bars are instant sources of Energy. Dont have any carbonated or sweetened drink as they tend to dehydrate you.

3. Keep the bum off the saddle in upward slopes and make maximum utilization of downward slopes (Go in top gear at full speed) so that you can cover a huge distance after the slope ends without much effort.

4. Take breaks whenever you feel like and dont overdo things. I recommend knee caps if the journey is a bit long.

5. Enjoy to the max.

Looking forward to more such trips.

Its that time of the year…

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

No! This is not a post on some conference happening during this time, every year. Its about the “Gibbon”. Yes, I just upgraded to the next release of Ubuntu codenamed “Gutsy Gibbon“. Not much difference between Feisty Fawn and Gutsy when it comes to Artwork. But there have been significant addition of features and the latest from upstream. The upgrade from Feisty went very smooth except for some trouble because of my emacs-snapshot installation which I later did a fresh install; otherwise it was a “All is well that Ends well” upgrade. Some significant things that caught my attention were the following:

  1. Leaving a message when the system is locked is a nice small feature.
  2. Open Office is now v2.3
  3. Gimp is 2.4rc.
  4. 2.6.22 series kernel.
  5. Bluetooth apps have got even better but not yet like the KDE counterparts. I still remember afresh using pradeepto’s lappie for doing some data transfer between my mobile and his laptop.
  6. Games have upgraded, especially torcs, the circuits have improved a lot with better scenic and more realistic backdrops.
  7. Pidgin rocks!
  8. Thunderbird 2.0 ’s new mail pop up by default makes it more “Outlookish” but still a good little one.
  9. Compiz-Fusion in by default

More as I explore.. Oh yeah I forgot again. The power management notifications just got even better :-) Experience them yourself! Hold your breath ladies and gentlemen.. The Gutsy is gonna be out! Yet another milestone for the Ubuntu Community. Great job guys!
