My darling is injured :(

Monday, May 28th, 2007

My laptop got struck by lightning and it fails to come up.. The HP guys are asking 18000 INR for the repair. It kinda feels really depressing at losing one of your best companions. I have had a very terrible weekend with lots of “not so exciting” or “not again” things that happened. I feel like writing a long post but I am stopping here because of my current state of mind. No prompt mail replies nor no IRC for quite sometime. In short I am not connected. I have been contemplating on getting a new laptop (Dell xps m1210) for quite sometime. Seems like I will have to do it now. Just that my dad might not be getting this laptop which I wanted to give to him :( :( I feel really bad.

Blogging from Drivel - a nice Desktop blog client

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I was meddling around with the bugs in launchpad today and one bug report ended up in another and as I was digging out into a lot of bugs I came across a interesting piece of software which I thought I will give it a shot. Its Drivel and I did a “sudo apt-get install drivel”.
The settings dialog looked like the one below.

I was a bit confused initially with the Journal type as I could not find Wordpress. Then Google came up with an answer as usual that I could select “Movable type” as the Journal and then append a /xmlrpc.php to the blog url; something like http://blog.tuxmaniac.com/xmlrpc.php and off you go posting your blog entry. It immediately syncs and updates the categories and latest blog entries for your use. Something that I would have liked is a WYSIWYG kind of a editor. Nevertheless, seems like a good piece of software.

Time to post it now :-)

Update: Grr. It screwed up my images. Had to re format it using the web interface :-D It looked like I was bit too fast in reviewing the package. Ok. Review rating changed from Nice to OK

“Wifi-Radar” is cool!

Friday, May 11th, 2007

I was in Bangalore airport today waiting for the boarding call to Chennai (I am off until 22nd May), when I decided to try out Wifi-Radar. Powered up Wifi-Radar from Applications -> Internet -> Wifi-Radar and here comes the screen showing all the darn networks.

I chose Airtel-Wifi and clicked on Connect. It prompted that there is currently no settings available and asked me to configure the settings. After the basic settings were configured, ok was clicked and this was the next dialog box. It read “Acquiring IP”

And then it was done and guess what!!??? I was connected to the Airtel Wi-Fi network at Bengalooru Airport! Nice piece of software this is. But I still prefer the “sudo iwconfig” method :-)

Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded Project Announced!!

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Wow! Today Matt Zimmermann announced the opening of the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded Project on the ubuntu-devel-announce list here. Its a welcome move. With the handheld devices sector gonna take over the world in a short while and more importantly I being a person who loves playing around with hardware and software, this is exciting. A lot of Embedded announcements in the past few days. Intel announced the the Ultra mobile platform for Mobile Internet Devices. The GNOME Community announced the Gnome Embedded and Mobile initiative. The Openmoko guys are rolling fast! So I am actually getting a bit confused with so many options of getting involved in a project. But one thing assured. Its gonna continue to be a lot of fun and learning. Looking forward to the bright days ahead. But first I have something to keep myself busy for the next 20 days. After that…

Living at PEACE!!

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

In The past few months I had started complaining about work stress, inhuman attitude of managers and the politics. Loads of frustrations, unhappiness and anger. But then I realised that this is how life is gonna be and complaining is not the solution. After all every place is inhabited by human beings. Its my perspective and “Way of Being” that has to change. Its after all “My” Life and I can live only once. Let me do what I want and dont care or “give in” to the circumstances / external factors. So I decided to consciously put in an effort to keep my mind at peace. Do things that makes you feel better always. The rule is as below;

Be insensitive to family strife and politics at workplace. Way of being is “Comfortably Numb”

Sounds simple right?? Err its pretty tuff to follow. I followed it for a week. And I am already able to feel the eternal joy and divine peace. When I decided to write down this realisation, I came across t3rmin4tor’s blog which mentions life in similar lines. And that Calvin cartoon pic on his blog says it all. Be at Peace with yourself always. Enjoy every small movement/action of yours. Dont get over excited, develop anxiety or even show frustrations. Just smile and drink some caffeine! Time will pass by. Does this all lead to these words called “self-control and self-discipline”?? May be!

Its all about PEACE within! (No dont think my tough times are over. Its just that I care a darn and hence I feel much better nowadays)
